Shu (Ripe) Pu-erh generally has a milder taste and effect. Commonlly the quality of the tea depends on the quality of raw materials.

The bouquet of a fine black Shu Pu-erh presents a pleasant earthy, nutty, or chocolately flavor and velvety and deep taste. You can drink Shu Pu-erh on an empty stomach (unlike young Sheng Pu-erh) and even before bedtime (if aged) but the infusion concentration should be light.

Contrary to popular belief the taste of black puerhs may change with time though not as significantly as it will in the case of Sheng Pu-erh.

Shu Pu-erh, also known as ripe or cooked Pu-erh, is a type of fermented tea that is produced using a special processing technique. Unlike sheng Pu-erh, which undergoes a natural fermentation process over time, shu Puer is fermented using a process that can take several months to complete.

The production process for Shu Pu-erh begins with sun-dried tea leaves that are then steamed and compressed into cakes or bricks. The tea is then piled and covered with a damp cloth, which creates a warm and humid environment that promotes the growth of beneficial microbes. Over the course of several weeks or months, the tea undergoes a controlled fermentation process that transforms the leaves into a dark, rich, and earthy tea.

How to brew Shu Pu-erh

To brew shu Pu-erh, you'll need a teapot or gaiwan (a small lidded bowl) and some loose-leaf tea. Here's how to brew shu Pu-erh:

  1. Rinse the tea: Pour hot water over the tea leaves and immediately discard the water. This helps to rinse away any impurities and open up the leaves for brewing.

  2. Steep the tea: Add fresh hot water to the teapot or gaiwan and let the tea steep for about 10 seconds. You can adjust the steeping time based on your taste preferences.

  3. Pour and enjoy: Pour the tea into small cups and enjoy! Shu Pu-erh has a rich, earthy flavor with notes of mushroom and wood, and it can be enjoyed on its own or with a splash of milk or sweetener if desired.

Overall, shu Pu-erh is a unique and flavorful tea that is prized for its deep, rich flavor and potential health benefits. If you're interested in trying shu Pu-erh, you can explore our collection of Shu Pu-erh.
